GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cancer Research Internship Program – Meeting Today

The Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program (HSIP) is an 8-week summer program that runs from July-August each summer at the BC Cancer Agency’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Center in Victoria. This program offers Grade 11 students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines, learning the latest techniques in the fight against cancer today and setting the ground for the future. Any interested Grade 11 students are asked to meet TODAY at lunch in Room 200 (Ms. McAvoy's Room) for more details.


Semester 1 FoodSafe Certificates

If you took FoodSafe with Mrs. O'Brien in block 1 last semester, your certificate has arrived. Please see her at lunch to grab it.


Claremont Musical Theatre – The Little Mermaid

Claremont presents Disney's "The Little Mermaid" !! Come 'under the sea' with us as over 75 students in the cast, crew and orchestra re-create the magic of one of Disney's favourite musicals. Shows are: Feb 27-29 & March 5-7 @ 7pm, also Saturday matinees on Feb 29 & March 7 at 1:00 pm. Adults $16, and children/students/seniors $14. Group price available for $13 each (for a group of 8 or more). Please call 250-658-6672 to reserve/buy your tickets.


Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.


PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!


CLUBS

Chess Club

Chess Club runs EVERY DAY at lunch in room 327; this is an open club for all students.

The Claremont Open Chess Tournament starts next week.


Nintendo Switch Club

Nintendo Switch Club meets TODAY at lunch in Room 215. Bring your Nintendo switch controllers to join in on the fun!


Key Club – Handbags For Hope

The Key Club is supporting the Team4Hope fund raising event: Handbags For Hope”. They will be collecting any gently used handbags, jewelry and scarves all next week, Feb. 10-13, at lunch time in the student lounge. Proceeds will benefit BC Children's Hospital Foundation and childhood cancer research.


Student Government – Valentine Flowers

Send a flower to your friend or special someone for Valentine's Day. Flowers will be on sale for $2 on MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY at lunch next week in the student lounge. Flowers will be delivered on THURSDAY during Block 3 so please know what Block 3 class your friend or special someone is in.


ATHLETICS

Jr and Sr Girls "B" Basketball

A big congratulations goes out to all of the players and coaches associated with both our Jr and Sr Girls "B" Basketball Teams! Both teams had exciting games last night in our Big Gym. Our Jr Girls even went to overtime with Vic High and ended up winning in convincing fashion - well done to all involved, it was fantastic to watch our girls' Spartan Spirit on full display!

The Road to the Playoffs is Finally Here! If you are interested in watching some more high-level basketball action and supporting our Spartan Nation, please come to the Big Gym TONIGHT and wear your RED to support our Jr Girls and Jr Boys A Basketball Teams as they enter into their first round of the City Championships! Our Jr Girls play at 5:45pm and they take on Royal Bay, while our Jr Boys play at 7:15pm and they take on Vic High. Hope to see you there!


CAREER CENTRE

 UVic to Visit Claremont – Feb 11

A representative from UVic will be at Claremont on TUESDAY, February 11th at lunch time in the Learning Commons. The presentation is intended for Grade 12 students, since the focus will be on self-reporting and the admissions process. Come by Tuesday for this valuable information!


Butchart Gardens Job Fair – Feb 12

Butchart Gardens is hosting a Job Fair on WEDNESDAY, February 12th, 6-8pm. Go there to find out about awesome employment opportunities for seasonal positions in their food or visitor services, gift store, or on their grounds. Come to the Career Centre for more info.


Lattitude: Gap Year Info Night – Feb 12

McGill University Summer Academy 2020

Students in grades 10 and 11 from across the world will have the opportunity to participate in classes, workshops, and social activities, introducing them to university life at McGill University and Montréal - all while being hosted in a McGill Residence! The 2020 Tsukino-Con Anime Convention, held February 21-23 at UVic, needs volunteers .

Women in Trades Exploration Day - Feb 26

Camosun College is hosting a ‘Women in Trades Exploration Day’. This fun, hands-on day introduces students to trades in electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, and automotive... as well as tech fields like civil & mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science. Dry Grad Fundraiser – Thrifty Smile Cards

One easy way to support the 2020 Dry Grad is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2020 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office. Questions? Free Code Maker Workshops
Science Venture is pleased to offer FREE Code Maker workshops, offering innovative programming focusing on digital skills and literacy with ADST connections. Workshops are designed to complement science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. For more information regarding Science Venture, please visit their website: scienceventure.ca. Peninsula Youth Clinic
For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
