GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Claremont Musical Theatre – The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid opens TONIGHT! Get your tickets from the Accounts office before we sell out (250-658-6672). Shows are: Feb 27-29 & March 5-7 @ 7pm, also Saturday matinees on Feb 29 & March 7 at 1:00 pm. Adults $16, and children/students/seniors $14.


Course Selection Forms

Reminder for all students to select your courses carefully before you submit your course selection forms. Course selection forms are due at the office by Monday March 2 and must have a parent/guardian signature.


Student Parking – Registration Required

Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot: you must be registered to park there. Permission forms are in the office. To become registered, the office needs: a parent-signed registration form, a photocopy of your driver’s licence, a photocopy of your car insurance, and $2 for the parking pass.


PAC Fundraising – Country Grocer Receipts

Support the Claremont PAC with your Country Grocer Receipts! Funds go towards the Breakfast Program, Grad 2020 and other clubs within our school community. Receipts can be dropped off at the Claremont office. Thank you!


CLUBS

Student Council - School Dance!!

Student Council is hosting a school-wide Glow Dance on THURSDAY, March 12th in the student lounge, from 7:00-9:30pm. Tickets are $5 and will be on sale every day at lunch at the Ridge Playhouse ticket area until March 11th.


Nintendo Switch Club

Nintendo Switch Club meets TODAY at lunch in Room 215. Bring your Nintendo switch controllers to join in on the fun!


ATHLETICS

Badminton Team

All students interested in trying out for the badminton team, there is a meeting on FRIDAY at lunch in the small gym. Everyone welcome!


Golf Team

Attention all golf enthusiasts! For all students interested in trying out for the golf team, there is a brief info meeting this FRIDAY at the beginning of lunch in room 276. If you are unable to make the meeting, please see Mr. Ryan in the PE office.


Sr Girls Soccer

Tryouts will be TODAY, and TUESDAY/THURSDAY after school of next week at Lochside turf. For more information see Ms Yager, or visit claremontathletics.ca


Basketball

Congratulations to our Junior Boys ‘A’ Basketball team on finishing up a very successful season at the Provincials this past weekend. Our boys took on some of the best teams in the Province, and although they did not finish in the top ten, they still battled hard and ended up winning their last two games of the tournament.”


A BIG thank you to all of those students & staff who donned their Spartan red and packed our gym last night to support our Sr Boys Basketball team as they took on NDSS in a challenge game that had a birth to the Provincials on the line: needless to say, the loud cheers and amazing support led to a 30 point dismantling of the visiting school, and our seniors are now officially off to Provincials next Tues, March 3rd!


CAREER CENTRE

Rotary Club's Adventures in Technology Program

Adventures in Technology takes place during the last week of April for approximately 40 Grade 11 and 12 students from across Western Canada. Students stay with host families in Saskatchewan while they explore advanced technology, research, development, and applications via tours, informative lectures, and hands-on events at some of Canada's finest corporations and research facilities. See Ms. Loukes in the Career Centre for more information.


Fairmont Empress Job Fair - March 4

The Empress is hiring for full-time, part-time and seasonal summer positions starting April-July 2020 in departments across the hotel: Housekeeping, Stewarding, Guest Services, Food & Beverage, Banquets, and Culinary... Come to the fair dressed 'business casual', and bring your paper resume for an on-the-spot interview! Job Fair is Wednesday March 4th, 4pm-7pm.


YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange Program

The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange Program brings youth aged 16 and 17 together from across the country. Students have the opportunity to improve their second official language skills and gain important employment experience through work placement during their 6-week exchange. The first priority application deadline is March 15, 2020. All applicants who apply by this date will be contacted before May 1st. After that date, the second priority deadline for remaining applications is May 15, 2020. Any applications received after that time will still be considered as long as there is space available in your community to participate. Explore the Trades

Have you ever considered exploring the Trades? Come to the Career Centre to find out about enrolling in Claremont’s TEX Program (Trades Exploration) for Semester Two 2021. You'll earn 24 Grade 12 credits, multiple training certificates, plus hands-on experience in Carpentry, Welding, Plumbing, and Electrical. TEX is open to all current Grade 10 & 11 students!!


Royal Canadian Naval Reserves – March 3

A recruiter from the HMCS Malahat, Victoria’s Naval Reserve Division, will be at Claremont on TUESDAY March 3rd at lunch in the Student Lounge. Find out about career options and awesome opportunities with the navy, both while you are still in school (summer time employment) and after high school.


Camosun Info Night – Tonight

Camosun College will be running their Info Night 2020 at the Interurban Campus TONIGHT, 5:00-7:30pm. You’ll have the chance to attend information sessions, talk to faculty, staff, and current students, and find out more about their programs and many services and supports. Criminal Justice Program – Info Session Tonight

If you are interested in Criminal Justice and law enforcement, come to an Information Session at Camosun College Lansdowne Campus to learn about the work of the different agencies, opportunities for the future and what it takes to be a candidate for the recruiting process. Discover Technology Program

If you are currently in Grade 10 or 11, and you're interested in Technology Applications, consider applying for the Discover Technology Program! The program runs September 2020 to January 2021. Students attend one semester (full-time) at Camosun College Interurban Campus, learning about Computer Science, Electronics, Engineering, Math, and Physics. Secondary and post-secondary credit is earned via direct industry connection through work experience, site visits, and tours. Visit the Career Centre for more information. Applications due by March 1st.


Mini Med School - April 2

The BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute is inviting Grade 10-12 students to attend Mini Med School 2020 at the Royal BC Museum, THURSDAY, April 2, 8:30-3:30. Mini Med School includes a diverse curriculum that highlights leading-edge medical research, explores a variety of careers in health sciences, and offers the opportunity to participate in hand-on science. Admission is FREE, but space is limited! Register at www.minimedschoolbc.ca.


Train to be an Umpire!

If you have played baseball or softball and wish to try umpiring, the Peninsula Baseball and Softball Organization is offering training clinics for umpiring in late February and in March. Pre-registration is required. There will be a Level 1 Baseball Clinic held at Parkland Secondary School in the evenings of Feb 24, 26 and 27. After training, umpiring positions are paid depending upon the age level game that is being umpired. Come to the Career Centre for more information.

Dry Grad Fundraiser – Thrifty Smile Cards

One easy way to support the 2020 Dry Grad is to use a Thrifty Foods Smile Card for your grocery shopping. Thrifty Foods will donate an amount equal to 5% of the dollars you load on to your pre-assigned Smile Card to the 2020 Dry Grad. Smile Cards can be picked up at the Claremont office. Questions? Rocky Mountains Trip

International students: there is an amazing bus trip and tour planned to the Rocky Mountains, 4 days & 3 nights: April 19-22. Enjoy some of the best mountain views in Canada, explore the town of Banff, see wildlife and experience the 360 degree mountain view at the top of the Banff Gondola, with optional extra activities (Ice Walking Tour, Snowshoeing Tour, and Lake Louise Tubing). Free Code Maker Workshops

Science Venture is pleased to offer FREE Code Maker workshops, offering innovative programming focusing on digital skills and literacy with ADST connections. Workshops are designed to complement science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. For more information regarding Science Venture, please visit their website: scienceventure.ca. Peninsula Youth Clinic
For all youth aged 12-24: the Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney (250-656-4143) and is open EVERY THURSDAY from 5:30 – 7:30pm, providing services for mental, physical, and sexual health. A doctor and mental health clinician is on hand. Walk-ins are welcome! Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone.
