GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Early Dismissal TODAY (one hour early)

A reminder to students and parents that TOMORROW (Thursday) is an early dismissal so that staff can prepare for parent-teacher interviews in the evening. The class schedule is:

Block 1: 9:15 – 11:15

Lunch: 11:15 – 12:00

Block 2: 12:00 – 2:00

Support: 2:00 – 2:15

Late block: 2:15 – 3:15


TODAY’s Mid-Day Bus

If you are a student in Group A who takes the bus home at the start of lunch, the bus will be leaving Claremont right after 11:15 TODAY. Make sure to head straight to the bus loop at the end of block 1.


Class Rotation Changes TUESDAY Oct. 13

Starting TUESDAY Oct 13th, we move to the ‘second five weeks’ of Quarter 1, with Block 1 occurring every other day on an A/B schedule and Block 2 at full attendance each day. Parents should have received an email from the block 1 teachers, indicating which group students are a part of for Block 1. Some classes with smaller numbers and a larger space to work (where physical distancing is possible) have been approved to continue with all students present and masked.


Mid-Day Busing Starting TUESDAY Oct. 13

As we change to the new class rotation next week, there are new schedules for students riding the school bus mid-day to arrive for afternoon classes. The mid-day schedules are posted outside of the office. Students: PLEASE check the schedule so you are prepared for next week. Parents and students can also check the schedule posted on a billboard on the Claremont website “Mid-Day Bus Schedule.


Spartan Day & Toonies for Terry– FRIDAY Oct. 9

Spartan Days typically happen 3 times a year. The purpose is to celebrate being a Spartan and also to fund-raise or give back to our community in some way. This Spartan Day, we are supporting the Terry Fox Foundation with our Toonies For Terry” campaign. TOMORROW (FRIDAY) we will ask students and staff to donate toonies in their block 1 classes. We encourage everyone to wear RED to show Spartan Spirit!

Did you know that this year marks the 40 year anniversary of the Terry Fox Run? His dream lives on.


ATHLETICS

Sr. Boys Volleyball

Due to a shortened block schedule TODAY, the Sr. Boys Volleyball "train and play" session will be from 2:30-4pm in the small gym. Please bring your signed participation waiver.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Luncheon – Oct. 14

The next luncheon for International students is WEDNESDAY October 14th in the Learning Commons. Hamburgers and fries will be served !

GRAD 2021

Grad Portraits: October 13-23

Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time: Tuesday October 13 – Friday October 23. To book your appointment, please go to the Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca Enter your province (BC), your city (Victoria) and your school (Claremont) to log in and book your appointment. Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (but if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook).


COMMUNITY NEWS

NEW Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre. Youth can pre-register online or come to the centre at programs time and register in person!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor. To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.


Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
