January 8, 2021 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students, Here are some important points of note as we head into the second week of January: New Lunch Break Routines: In order to avoid large congregations of students eating lunch in our hallways (which creates issues with mask use/non-use in close quarters with others), we are allowing students to eat in their Block 1 classrooms during the first 15min of the lunch hour so that students can eat and be without masks as a part of their cohort. This means that students will not be eating (and will have their masks on at all times) while in the hallways for the rest of the lunch hour (12noon -12:45pm). Students that don’t have a Block 1 class on a particular day are encouraged to eat lunch at home before coming to school for their Block 2 class. School Bussing: Our lunchtime school bussing has now changed over so that students are picked up near their homes and delivered to school for 12:30pm (Blk 2 class starts at 12:45pm). Please check our most updated schedule: New Mid-Day Bus Schedule for January 4th - 29th After Grad Parent Committee Meeting: The Claremont Parent After Grad Committee has established an executive committee and has started making plans for fundraising and potential grad events. The next meeting is Tuesday Jan.12 at 7:00 pm, virtually through TEAMs. If you are interested in joining this meeting please RSVP through email to Mr. Westhaver (pwesthaver@saanichschools.ca) and he will send you the invitation link. The Saanich School District uses the Microsoft TEAMs platform for many virtual meetings. Numeracy and Literacy Assessments: A reminder that Quarter 2 Provincial Assessments are running from Mon Jan 25th - Wed Jan 27th. Grade 10 and 11 students enrolled in Math or English in Quarter 2 will write their assessments during their class time. If any students in Grade 10 or 11 missed this assessment in Q1, please come to the office to sign up for a date to write. Please direct any questions regarding this process to Mrs. de Klerk (kdeklerk@saanichschools.ca). You can find more information about Graduation Assessments linked here. Sincerely, Peter Westhaver Kelly de Klerk Aaron Buckham pwesthaver@saanichschools.ca kdeklerk@saanichschools.ca abuckham@saanichschools.ca
