GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Quarter 3 & 4 Timetables

The remainder of the updated timetables for Quarter 3 & 4 are being handed out to students TODAY in Block 1 classes. Please make sure you pick it up, because there may have been some changes in room numbers or teachers since they were printed at the start of the year. If you don’t have a block 1 class, your timetable can be picked up in the main office.

 

No Mid-Day School Busses THIS FRIDAY Jan 29

Please be advised that there will NOT be mid-day school busses running on our Curriculum Completion Day (THIS FRIDAY Jan 29th); regular classes are not in session that day, and only students who have make-up work to complete will be in the building.  Any students who need to make their way to the building for the afternoon will need to find their own way to school that day.  The morning and after school busses WILL be running that day.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in Math, English, Science or Social Studies: help from Education Assistants is available on TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS 3:00-4:00 after school in room 235 (computer lab). All students in all grades are welcome. Please wear a mask.

 

Peer Tutoring

Another avenue for students to get help with academic studies (Math, English, Science, and Social Studies) is to work with a Peer Tutor. We have volunteer Peer Tutors who are ready to be paired up with students asking for some extra help. If you are interested in having a Peer Tutor, please see Mrs. Wadsworth in the Learning Commons.

 

Mid-Morning Breaktime Food Service

Reminder that the Spartan Store is open for breakfast and snack service 10:00-11:00 every morning, with reasonably-priced hot drinks and morning treats. Cash or lunch cards only.

  

ATHLETICS

Speedball Intramurals

Speedball Intramurals begin this week. Junior grades (9/10) start TODAY at lunch and all students who registered will play today. Senior grades (11/12) start THURSDAY at lunch. Players, Teams, and schedules are posted on the Athletics page of the Claremont website and on gym doors and hallways.

  

CLUBS

Math Club – Signup for Math Contests

If you are wanting to write the Pascal, Cayley, or Fermat Math Contest put on by the University of Waterloo, please sign up outside room 133.  Space is limited.

Skills Canada Competition Week

Show your skills, compete, and have fun by registering for Skills Canada Competition Week! 

There are Secondary (Grades 10-12) and Junior (Grades 6-9) competitions, based on tons of fun categories, like: Electronics, Culinary, Graphic Design, Hairstyling, Wind Turbines, Gear Bots, Public Speaking, Photography, Job Search, and more!  Competition Week: March 1-6. Students must be registered by Friday, February 19th!  See Mr. Bussoli, Mr, Arsenault, Mrs. Watson, or email sip@camosun.ca if you have any questions or to register.

 

Job Opportunity

Farm/garden help.  If you are interested in being outside and getting exercise, you may be a good candidate for this local job. Right now, the employer is looking for someone to help gather branches and do other odd jobs in the garden. Eventually, the job could increase to work in the vegetable garden and other areas of the property. Scheduling is flexible, starting at as little as 3 hours per week, working up to more hours and potential summer work. Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

 

Grad Wear – Orders Due Jan. 29

REMINDER: Grad Wear order forms and display are at the Accounts office. Orders are due THIS FRIDAY Jan 29 with no exceptions. Clothing options include: Hoodies, Crew Necks, Sweatpants, masks and lanyards. Also, if you would like to wear Cap & Gown to this year's Grad events, you must order your Gown on the Grad Wear order form too. Images of the clothing are shown on the Grad 2021 Page on the Claremont website!

 

Scholarships

BC Excellence Scholarship ($5000):  Claremont can nominate one student for the BC Excellence Scholarship which is valued at $5000.  The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to those who have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and who show aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career paths.  If you would like to be nominated, submit a nomination application package to Ms. Tong.  The link can be found on the Claremont Website Scholarships Page and the Scholarships Tracker.  Deadline to submit application: January 29.

 

Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship ($5000): Students interested in pursing a career in teaching are encouraged to apply for this $5000 scholarship. Twenty awards will be given this year to graduating students across BC.  The application is online and can be found on the Claremont Website Scholarships Page and the Scholarships Tracker. Deadline to submit online application: February 15.

Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre.  Youth can pre-register online or in person!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

 

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
