GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Musical Theatre Performance: “We Will Rock You”

March 3-6 at 7pm

Claremont Musical Theatre presents: “We Will Rock You”.   Our show will be live-streaming 4 nights THIS WEEK (March 3-6). You can buy a ticket to the stream at www.booktixlive.ca/portal/css for any of the shows.  There is also a link on the Claremont website.

This is a fun and futuristic musical, that features the songs of classic rock band QUEEN. Over 65 students in the cast, crew, and orchestra showcase their talents, and this show guarantees you'll be humming and clapping to the well-known songs of Queen.  Thank you for supporting the Musical Theatre program.

  

Parent-Teacher Interviews: March 4

Quarter 3 Parent/Teacher Interview night is THIS THURSDAY March 4, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Parents/guardians can book an 8-minute appointment with teachers online through the link on our school website.

 

March 4: Revised Schedule & Early Dismissal (2:15).

A reminder to students and parents that THIS THURSDAY March 4 is an early dismissal, so that staff can prepare for parent-teacher interviews in the evening. The class schedule will be:

Early block: 8:00 – 9:00

Support: 9:00 – 9:15

Block 1: 9:15 – 11:15

Lunch: 11:15 – 12:00

Support: 12:00 – 12:15

Block 2: 12:15 – 2:15

Late block: 2:15 – 3:15

 

Class Rotation Changes MONDAY March 8

Starting MONDAY March 8, we move to the ‘second five weeks’ of Quarter 3, with Block 1 alternating days on an A/B schedule and Block 2 at full attendance each day. Parents will receive an email from the block 1 teachers, indicating which group students are a part of for Block 1. Some classes with smaller numbers and a larger space to work (where physical distancing is possible) have been approved to continue with all students present and masked.

 

Mid-Day Busing Starting MONDAY March 8

As we change to the new class rotation next week, there will be new schedules for students riding the school bus mid-day to arrive for afternoon classes. The mid-day schedules will be posted shortly outside of the office. Students: PLEASE check the schedule so you are prepared for next week. Parents and students can also check the schedule posted on a billboard on the Claremont website “Mid-Day Bus Schedule.”

  

Jersey Day: March 5

Our next theme day is THIS FRIDAY March 5: Jersey Day!!  Wear your favourite team or Spartan Jersey.

 

2021-2022 Course Book

The digital Course Book for the 2021-2022 school year is posted on the Claremont website. Families can familiarize themselves with course offerings, specialty programs and pathways to graduation.

 

Course Selection Forms

Reminder to students to complete and return your Course Selection Forms this week.  

General Course Selection Forms are due back in the office by FRIDAY March 5.

CSI Application Forms are due back in the office on WEDNESDAY March 3 (attached to a Course Selection Form).

Mid-Morning Breaktime Food Service

Reminder that the Spartan Store is open every morning for breakfast and snack service 10:00-11:00, with reasonably-priced hot drinks and morning treats. Cash or lunch cards only.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in Math, English, Science or Social Studies: help from Education Assistants is available on TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS 3:00-4:00 after school in room 235 (computer lab). All students in all grades are welcome

 

Peer Tutoring

Another avenue for students to get help with academic studies (Math, English, Science, and Social Studies) is to work with a Peer Tutor. We have volunteer Peer Tutors who are ready to be paired up with students asking for some extra help. If you are interested in having a Peer Tutor, please see Mrs. Wadsworth in the Learning Commons.

Bubble Bowl #2 playoffs are this week.

Junior playoffs are TODAY & THURSDAY. Senior playoffs continue WEDNESDAY.

UVic Virtual Parent Night: March 9

Grade 11 & 12 parents (and students) are invited to attend an informative virtual session that will address the transition from high school to university, in addition to information about UVic academic planning.  Presentations from Dr. Lisa Surridge, Humanities Associate Dean Academic and Dr. Susan Lewis, Acting Vice-Provost.  Q&A with both presenters.

The BEng in Software Engineering program at Thompson Rivers University is currently accepting applications, but seats are limited!

There are so many virtual information sessions and events being offered by post-secondary institutions.  The Saanich School District has a Careers page that is full of good information about various training and post-secondary opportunities. Hilltop Nursery is providing various flower baskets (annual mixes, begonias, strawberries, and tomatoes).  Order Forms have been handed out to all Grade 12 Students; they are also available on the Grad Page of the Claremont website

Order sweet Easter treats and support our Grads at the same time. The Purdy’s online marketplace shows you a detailed picture & information about each item. Details are on the on the Grad Page of the Claremont website. 

 

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

  

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
