GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Students Taking History 108 in Sept 2022

Are you signing up for Dual Credit History 108 this Sept 2022?  There is a MANDATORY meeting THIS FRIDAY, May 27th at lunch in Room 217 with Mr. Bussoli.  This meeting will show you how to register for History 108 via Camosun.  You MUST attend this meeting, as applications are due June 1st.  No application = No History 108

 

Work Experience Credits

Any students who think they might be working or volunteering this summer and want to receive high school credits for Work Experience, MUST REGISTER for Work Experience with Mr. Arsenault.  Come see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre any morning to register.

 

Theme Day: Monochrome – May 27

THIS FRIDAY is Monochrome Day!  Wear all the same colour or pattern to show some school spirit.

 

Camosun Food Truck – TODAY

The Camosun Food Truck will be here for lunch service TODAY.  It is a QUESADILLA theme and will be outside the student lounge. Cafeteria lunch service will be limited on this day.

 

Spring Music Cafe – June 9

For all musical students: Claremont’s Spring Music Café will be THURSDAY June 9th in the Learning Commons. More details to follow. If you are interested in performing as an individual or ensemble, please connect with Mrs. English by May 30th:  jenglish@saanichschools.ca or find her in the music room at lunch.

 

IGS - Zero Café

The Zero Café is open in the IGS Room 264 before school and at lunch every day of the week. Americanos, Lattes, Cappuccinos, we’ve got them! Get all of your delicious coffee drinks at a fraction of the price that you pay at the big coffee shops.

 

School Bus Registration for 2022-2023

Registration is now open for students to ride the school bus for the next 2022-2023 school year.  Students must be registered with SD63 Transportation Department and hold a current year bus pass in order to ride on the bus.  Registration is on-line, and you will need the following information when registering: Student Name, School, Grade, Student Number.  Here is the LINK for registration, and it will close June 15, 2022

 

Antigen Tests for Students

Reminder to students that if you didn’t pick up your box of 5 antigen tests yet, they are available in the office. Students are allowed to receive one box each.

 

Absences and Illness

A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness. Please notify either the Attendance email: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-658-6666.  Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school by clicking HERE .

 

ATHLETICS

Girls Rugby

A huge congratulations to Mr. Slade and our Rugby Girls who went to battle and finished with an unbeaten season, winning the Island Championship in commanding fashion against SMU. Although a little battered and bruised, they are all smiles and grace as they hoist the Island trophy. Next stop, Provincials! Go Spartans!!

 

CSI Rowing Fundraiser: Bubble Tea – May 27

The CSI Rowers are selling Bubble Tea TOMORROW (FRIDAY) at lunch in the Spartan Store.  Flavours are mango, strawberry, milk tea, and cookies & cream.  $6 each.  All sales will go towards sending the rowers to the high school National Championship at the end of the month.  Thank you for your support.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International “Tropical” Dance – June 8

Reminder: there is a dance for all students in the Saanich International Students Program on WEDNESDAY June 8, 5:30-8:00pm. Location is at Stelly's Secondary School (Multi-Purpose Room).  The theme is “Tropical”.

Host Families Needed

Saanich International Student Program (SISP) is actively looking for new Host Families for our International students joining us at the end of August 2022.  Make lifelong friendships, provide a student with a home away from home and share the beauty of your community!

If you are interested in this opportunity, host families are provided:

·      $975 per month per student (students must have their own bedroom)

·      Ongoing support from the SISP Homestay team

·      International students who are fully vaccinated

GRAD 2022

Ticket Update for Grad Ceremony!!

Yesterday, UVic sent the following information by email to the SD63 STUDENT EMAIL of each grad who plans to attend the 2022 graduation ceremony:

Your tickets for the upcoming Claremont High School Graduation 2022 are attached. Tickets can be printed at home or scanned off a smart device.

Extra tickets will go on sale TUESDAY June 7th at 9.30am.  Please call the UVic Ticket Centre, 250-721-8480 to purchase tickets.  2 extra tickets per student is the limit, until they are gone.  Extra tickets are $10 each + handling fees.

Please note this event has assigned seating with each ticket having a unique bar code relating to an individual seat. Babies, even if being held, must have a ticket to enter the venue. Graduating students do not require a ticket to participate in graduation.

As of March 11, 2022, face coverings are optional. We ask all to remain kind and respectful of the personal choices that each individual may make regarding mask use.

Parking On Campus: Parking information can be found on the UVic website. Parking can be paid in advance or on the day of the event at one of the pay meters

Grad 2022 Fundraiser – Online 50/50 Draw

Grad Online 50/50 Raffle starts TODAY.  This will be the final Grad fundraiser.  Tickets are $10 each or three for $20.  Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, June 8th at midnight. Draw is Thursday, June 9th at 12 pm.  Tickets can be purchased online by anyone residing in BC over the age of 19, so please share this LINK for 50/50 with family and friends and help support our Grads.  

 

Volunteers Needed for Year-End Grad 2022 Events

Our Grad Parent Executive is looking for volunteers to assist with our year-end Grad

events on MONDAY June 27th and WEDNESDAY June 29th. Parents/guardians can sign up to assist with supervision, setup, takedown and other tasks on these days by using this LINK.

2SLGBTQ2IA+ Drop-in Social Group

There is a new 2SLGBTQ2IA+ drop-in social group at The Upside Youth Centre.  MONDAYS from 3:30 – 5:30pmThis is a safe space to be yourself and connect with a youth leader and peers. Play games, make crafts, spend time outside and connect with our staff. Youth in Grade 6 - 12 are welcome! Sign up HERE.

 

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
