Saving Google Drive Data

Graduating students (and other students transferring out of the Saanich School District) will lose access to their Google Drive data when they leave Saanich Schools. To ensure they can take their important data with them,  the School District IT department has provided these simple instructions.

Option 1:  COPY your content to a personal Google account:

While signed into Chrome with your District Google account, left-click on your “person” icon and click on “Manage your Google account”. Click on “Start transfer” from the box, and follow the instructions to transfer your content to a personal Google account. This process is very quick to set up but the data may take up to 24 hours to appear in the personal account.

Option 2:  BACKUP your content to a USB:

Export a copy of content in your Google Account to back it up or use it with a service outside of Google. This is a manual process for saving data onto a USB drive. This process should be done at home only as it may take some time to complete the download. Open Chrome and make sure you’re signed in with your District Google account. In a new tab, go to takeout.google.com. This will allow you to backup everything from your Google account, so first click “Deselect all” when you see the selection below. Then manually select only the items you want/need to back up and follow the prompts afterward to start the download.

Deadline to save your Google Drive data is July 31.
