GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Peer Tutoring
Starting this week, we now have Peer Tutors available to help you at lunch on TUESDAYS (Math/Science) and WEDNESDAYS (Math/Science/English/Socials) in Math room 134. You can also request a peer tutor for a different time by filling out a "request sheet" on the window of Ms. Giese's office in the counselling area.
Peer tutors: please meet Ms. Giese in room 225 this WEDNESDAY at lunch if you are not part of the drop-in sessions.

Become an International Peer Advisor!
Are you interested in being an international peer advisor this year? Are you a grade 9-12 student who wants to find out more about being an international peer advisor and how you can help support our international students?  If so, please join us on FRIDAY at lunch in room 310.  If you have questions before then, please see Ms. Heppell.

Best Buddies
This week only, Best Buddies will meet on FRIDAY at lunch in Room 234.  Starting next week, we will meet on MONDAYs at lunch. 

School Photos
School photos have arrived and will be distributed to students on THURSDAY, October 8th in House Block from 10:22 - 10:36 am.  Please remind your student that they must come to house block on Thursday to get photos.  If students miss this House Block, the photos will not be available in the office until Tuesday October 13th.

Grade 9's: Take Our Kids to Work Day – Nov 4th
Mark your calendar for "Take Our Kids to Work Day" on Wednesday, November 4th. This is an annual national program in which students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives and volunteers at workplaces across Canada!  Start the conversation with someone you would like to "go to work with" and stay tuned here for more information to come!

WE Day Vancouver Is Coming Soon
WE Day is coming to Vancouver on October 21, 2015.  There are limited number of tickets for Claremont. Students wishing to attend are required to sign up for an interview. The sign up sheet will be in the Learning Commons and will be up between October 1 to October 8. 

Halloween Spooky Volunteer Opportunity – Build Your Volunteer Hours
Vancouver Island Model Engineer Society is presenting a Family Friendly Halloween Event...The Pumpkin Express! Event dates are October 23, 24, 25 from 4-9pm.  They need help with the preparation for this event (building scarecrows, decorating the forest areas the train runs through etc.) as well as volunteering during the event with supervision of craft tables, train track crossings, pumpkin carvings, haunted story walks, scavenger hunt in the grave yard and face painting.  Please contact the event coordinator Diana Wigen at dianawigen@gmail.com.  Subject line should read "Pumpkin Express Volunteer."

Lost and Found - Rings
Girls!  We STILL have four pretty rings in the office that have been found on various days in the girls washroom.  Please come to the office to claim them.

Hair Models Needed for Studio 63
Get a FREE cut, colour and updo at Studio 63 Teaching Salon on MONDAY November 2nd  from 8:30 - 1:00.  Lunch will be included!  Looking for students with long hair who don't mind having layers put in.  Please visit the Career Centre for more info!

ATHLETICS
Basketball
For all boys wanting to be a part of the junior boys basketball team: the first open gym is TONIGHT at 7:00 pm in the main gym.  Tryouts will begin later in the month but it is recommended that all attend.  Please see Mr Reisig if you can not attend this Tuesday. 
For all girls wanting to play basketball this year: there will be a meeting on WEDNESDAY at the start of lunch in the main gym.  This will only take 5 minutes, but all girls grades 9-12 need to attend.  Please see Mr Reisig if there is a reason you cannot attend.

CAREER CENTRE
Educational Exchange Trips
OSEF- ASBL is now offering reciprocal educational exchanges to Spain as well as France and Belgium!  3-month programs include attendance in your exchange country during the school year.  There are also 1-month reciprocal summer programs.  This is an awesome opportunity to experience life, cultural and language immersion in Europe! For more information, please see Mrs. Rhodes in the Career Centre.

GRAD 2016
Magic Wand
The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an eco-friendly and inexpensive alternative to grad outfits for girls and boys.  You can borrow like-new grad dresses, tuxes, suits, shoes and accessories for grad night. A small fee for cleaning is the only cost.  The first “Boutique” to browse and choose an outfit is on FRIDAY October 16th .  To sign up to attend the “Boutique” (or to book a private appointment): email Elizabeth at esurerus@telus.net. 

Grad Portraits
Grads:  It’s time to book your Grad Portrait photo shoot.  Lifetouch is bringing a portable studio to Claremont two days earlier than expected, starting October 8th. You need to book your appointment NOW by going onto the Lifetouch website:  www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Photo brochures are available in the office. Don’t put this off, because the appointments book up quickly!
