Best Buddies - Critical Meeting

Key Club - UNICEF
Do you want to help children all over the world? Of course you do! Please donate any spare change from now until Halloween into the UNICEF boxes found in all your teachers' classrooms. Every little bit can add up to a lot!

London, England – Spring Break 2016
Do you want to go to London at Spring Break?  Mr. Plant will be holding another recruitment meeting this THURSDAY at lunch in the theatre.  This trip is going to happen during Spring Break and will be 9 days in duration.  If you are interested but cannot attend, see Mr. Plant ASAP.

Motivational Day
Youth for Change and Inclusion is hosting a free "Motivational Day" this FRIDAY Oct 23 from 8:30-3:30, with speakers, activities and food at Mount Doug. The day is designed to expose teenagers to topics like social activism using art, and mental health and homelessness in Victoria. There will be opportunities to see how you can get involved in these issues at school and in your community. Look for posters around the school; you can also ask Ms Gaudet or Ms G-C about this event, and you can register for the event on eventbrite.ca

School Bus Passes
If you have registered to ride the school bus, most of the bus passes have arrived. Please come to the office to pick them up.

Starve a Vampire......Give Blood
The first blood drive appointments are available on TUESDAY Oct 27th at the Saanich Road site.  Students must be 17yrs old.  Sign up at lunch in student lounge or see Ms Chapman, room 136.

School Photos -  Retake Day
Photo Retake Day is this WEDNESDAY Oct 21, starting at 9:00 in the Learning Commons.  If students plan to get retakes, they must bring the full photo package they received with them on retake day and hand it to the photographer.  If a student did not get photos on the original photo day, this will be the last opportunity to get photos done to get student ID and a photo for the yearbook.  Also, there are still many photos and student ID cards in the office, waiting to be picked up by students.

Basketball tryouts this week
Senior Boys - TUESDAY 7:00-9:00 pm in the main gym, and possibly THURSDAY 7:00-9:00 pm in the small gym and SUNDAY at a time TBA.
Junior Boys - TUESDAY 7:00-9:00 pm in the small gym and THURSDAY 7:00-9:00 pm in main gym, possibly THURSDAY from 5:30-7:00 pm.
Girls bball - all girls WEDNESDAY from 6:30-8:15pm

Senior Boys Volleyball - congrats to the guys on their 4th place finish at the Duncan Christian tournament this weekend.  Strong tournament play was noted by Lorenz Vogel, Zach Manns, and tourney all-star Jake Campbell.
Junior Girls volleyball - congrats to girls for a 4th place finish in a competitive island field at Belmont this weekend.  3rd was theirs to have but it wasn't to be.  Congrats to all and special mention to Kaley Toker for her tourney all-star award.  The grade 9 team hosts 3 teams TODAY after school.
Senior Boys Soccer - game at Oak Bay on TUESDAY.
Junior Boys Soccer - quarter final playoff game at Mt Doug WEDNESDAY after school; , brief meeting TODAY at lunch in small gym.

CAREER CENTRE
First Aid Course
'ALERT' Emergency First Aid Training with CPR and AED -  this course is being offered on Thursday, November 12 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney (this is a Pro-D day). Cost is $50 payable, in cash, cheque or credit card. More information in Career Centre.

House of Commons Page Program
Planning to start university next year?  Do you speak both official languages?  Are you interested in the work of Parliament?  Become a House of Commons Page!  Pages are contracted to work at the House of Commons for one year, beginning in late-August 2016.  Their work schedule is a minimum of 15 hours per week that will be coordinated with their university schedule!  Get paid to watch all the action and aid in the processes on Parliament Hill in Ottawa! An overall academic average of 80% is required. Application deadline for the 2016/2017  HOC Page Program is Monday, December 7, 2015.  Please see Mrs. Rhodes in the Career Office for more information!

Work Experience / Employment Opportunity
The Children's Place clothing store at Uptown Centre is now accepting students for Work Experience.  Must be 16 or over for work experience, and 18 to be considered for employment.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Office.

Volunteer Opportunity – Corn Maze
Help out at Victoria's newest Corn Maze!!  Pendray Farms is looking for volunteers to help at the corn maze during all of October.  Duties include: parking, ticket sales, first aid, customer service, maze station monitor and more! Grads:  This is the last week that Lifetouch will be here with their portable studio to take your grad photos. If you haven't booked your photo shoot, you need to book your appointment NOW by going onto the Lifetouch website:  www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Photo brochures are available in the office. Don’t put this off; you are almost out of time!
