Jr. Boys Volleyball Team - Silver Medalists at Island Championships
After a tough start on Friday in the Jr. Boys Volleyball Island Championships, the Spartans were 3rd in the "B" pool (losing to Royal Bay in three sets, losing to Isfeld, Comox, in two sets and defeating Gulf Island in two straight sets). The Claremont Team had a tough road ahead of them facing the "A#2" team PCS in an early Saturday morning 1/4 final. The Spartans beat PCS 25-23, 25-14 to advance to the semi final where they faced the undefeated "B#1" team, Isfeld. In the re-match the Spartans took control and defeated them 25-22, 25-18 to advance to the final. In the final the boys faced Royal Bay (who had defeated Claremont in their last two meetings). The Spartans were off to a rocky start but clawed their way back and made the game respectable but lost 20-25. In the second set, the Spartans were down by seven points but were able to bounce back with strong serving and good defence and win an epic battle, 26-24. In the third set, Claremont started off strong but fell victim to Royal Bay's tough serving and consistent attacks losing, 14-16. It was an exciting match that gave the fans their money's worth.
All players contributed to the the team's success. Claremont's MVP for the tournament was Josh Phillips (gr. 10) and we had consistent play from many other players (notable mention goes to Reed Smith - gr. 9 and gr. 10's - Trevor Copp, Carter Cooper and Ayden Ryan).
