GRIZZLIES REMEMBER LOCAL HOCKEY PLAYER REID KYFIUK
VICTORIA, B.C. -- The love of hockey, and bonds with teammates, will always be central in recalling the remarkable life of Reid Kyfiuk.
The 15-year-old from Victoria, a Claremont Secondary student, passed away tragically over the holidays during a snowboarding outing at Mount Washington, and a capacity crowd attended his Saanich Braves midget C-5 team's next hockey game to remember this tremendous young man.
The tributes for Reid will continue on Friday, January 8, at The Q Centre, when the Victoria Grizzlies play host to the Powell River Kings. The Kyfiuk family moved to Saanich from Powell River, and will be on hand for the game as members of his hockey team will be recognized before the game. A special presentation and moment of silence will take place with Andy Kyfiuk, Reid's father and an assistant coach with the Braves, will drop the puck for the ceremonial faceoff.
"This is an important night for this community, to recognize such a great young man and the impact he had in such a short time -- too short, to be sure," said Lance Black, the Governor for the Grizzlies.
"Reid's family, teammates and friends have been so strong through this tough time, and we need to recognize this as a community."
To further celebrate with Reid's teammates, anyone who wears a hockey jersey to the game will gain admission for just $5, along with students and parents from Claremont school.
