Best Buddies meets TODAY at lunch in room 234.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Year-Long Drama Play
Year-Long Drama presents: “The Good Person of Szechwan.”  This play is a drama and explores what it means to be a 'good person'.  Shows run nightly Feb 17-20 and Feb 23-26 at 7:30pm.  All tickets $10 at the door.  If you bring a non-perishable food item you can get a $1 off your ticket price (maximum $5 off).  Donations go to Mustard Seed food bank.  This play deals with mature subjects, so is not recommended for children under 12.

Blood Drive
“Young Blood For Life” Blood Drive will be in the Learning Commons on Monday Feb 29.  Sign up starts Wednesday - with Ms Chapman, rm 136, or in the Student Lounge at lunch time.  Must be at least 17yrs old. 

Bone Marrow Registry
“OneMatch” Registry for Bone Marrow Donation will be in the Learning Commons on Monday Feb 29 .  No appointment needed.  Must be at least 16yrs old.

Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutors are now available at lunch four days per week (MONDAYS to THURSDAYS) to help in the academic and language areas. Please check into the Peer Tutor area near the start of lunch.

ATHLETICS
Curling Teams
Congratulations to the Claremont Curling Teams for a fantastic showing at the Region 1 Island Playdowns this weekend.  The Claremont Boys team finished 3rd on the Island and the Claremont Girls team finished 2nd on the Island.  Well done Spartans!

CAREER CENTRE
Volunteer Opportunities
BC SPCA Wild ARC is a specialized centre for treating injured or orphaned wild animals in Metchosin.  Volunteer positions are available in animal care, centre support, and community-building. Register for a volunteer orientation session!
Langham Court Theatre is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join their team. From costume sewers and menders to set builders! Great experience to be part of this dramatic group!
Headway Health Fair at the Mary Winspear Centre, SATURDAY February 27th 8:00am-10:00  still needs 4 Volunteers to help vendors set up, and sell their goods. Cashier experience an asset but not necessary.

Free Income Tax Preparation!
Have you been working and need to submit an income tax return this year? Beacon can help! Volunteers will be available at the SHOAL Centre, in Sidney, March 1 to April 29. To qualify, your income must be less than $30,000.00 this year. Drop-in available weekdays after school.

Quest University Information Night
Prospective students and their parents are welcome to join a free information night about studying at Quest University (Squamish, BC) on WEDNESDAY Feb 17 @ 6:30 pm at the downtown branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library (735 Broughton St.). The evening features a talk from James Cohn and opportunities to talk to alumni and admissions representatives.

Free Retail Training
Free Retail Training program runs Feb 28 to March 20th in Sidney.  This certificate program prepares you for first time work experiences in retail and many other work environments. You will be treated as an employee and you will be working alongside a busy team of staff members.  Learn to work a cash register and count cash, assist with pricing, customer service, sorting inventory, and creating displays.  Visit the Career Centre for contact information.

Army Reserve Field Ambulance
Come to learn more about being a medic with an Army Reserve Unit!  There will be a presentation by the Eleven (Victoria) Field Ambulance Army Reserve Unit on TUESDAY, Feb. 16th at lunch in the Learning Commons.   They are currently hiring Medical Assistants for part-time positions within the unit. Army Reserves is a very good part-time job while being a student in College or University; as well, there is federal funding of up to $8000 dollars to pursue post-secondary education.

OSEF Exchanges to France, Belgium and Spain
Applications are still being accepted for the 2016/2017 OSEF School Exchange programs to France, Belgium or Spain!  Live and go to school for 9 or 11 weeks and learn another language while being immersed in a new culture!  Can't take time away from school here?  Consider the 1-month Summer exchange program.  Please see Mrs. Rhodes in the Career Centre for more information!.
