Claremont Pride Alliance Projects
Poster Contest: We are offering a $150 cash prize to the student who designs the best poster promoting KINDNESS as a core Claremont value. The contest is open to any Claremont student. Contest closes February 5, 2013.
YCI: Each year the Victoria Police department runs a powerful program called Youth Combating Intolerance. The 4-day camp includes world-class keynote speakers, workshops, games and event- planning sessions. Students are expected to bring their experiences back to the school to promote possitive change.
Teacher and Administration Presentation: We have been working on a presentation for teachers and administration to try to illuminate the experience of being a gay youth in the Saanich school system. The presentation will include a powerful performance poetry piece, as well as testimonials and a brief information session.
Rise Against Homophobia Video: We are working hard to film a video to enter in the outinschools.com Rise Against Homophobia video contest. We are hoping to win the cash prize; but more importantly, we would like to use the video to promote our club and to further our work to make Claremont a school where acceptance and kindness are the norm.
Display Board: In the breezeway at the front of the school we have a bulletin board that we have been using to help educate the school populous with thought-provoking, interesting and entertaining displays.
Literacy Project: We have purchased over 16 LGBTQ-friendly titles to add to the Claremont Learning Commons collection. For the months of January and February the Learning Commons prominently displayed these titles under the caption “Take PRIDE in Reading”.
