GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Blood Drive

Congratulations to all the blood donors at the clinic last week.  A total of 40 units were collected, which translates into 120 lives saved!!  Well done Spartans.  All donors need to see Ms Chapman to register as part of Claremont's Young Blood for Life Challenge. 

Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is hoping to start up soon, selling affordable bagels, spreads and hot beverages on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before block 1.  For the program to happen, they need parent volunteers, and a few student volunteers.  If you can help, please email Gillian England: gmengland@shaw.ca.

October PAC Meeting
The next Claremont PAC Meeting is TUESDAY Oct 18 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons  Principal Peter Westhaver is looking forward in meeting as many parents as possible at this meeting.  He is also seeking parent support to take on a role with the PAC Executive.  Currently all positions are open, with the exception of Treasurer (thank you Lynda Mason).  Please make note of the agenda below.

CLUB OPPORTUNITIES
Claremont Improv Club

Are you interested in trying improvised theatre for the first time or honing your mad performance skills?  Come check out the Claremont Improv Club.  Our first official meeting will be this FRIDAY Oct 14th at lunch in room 201. After that, we will practice each MONDAY from 3:30-5:00 in the choir room, starting Monday Oct 17th.  See Ms Cameron in room 201 for more information.

ATHLETICS
Sr. Boys Volleyball

Thanks to all the students and parents who attended the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team matches last night at Claremont.  The Spartans defeated Vic High 25-07, 25-09 and Mt. Doug 25-05, 25-17.  The Spartans lost to the #4 BC ranked Reynolds 18-25, 16-25.  It was a good battle but the scores do not indicate the competitiveness of the rallies.  Special thanks to our minor official Talyor Sims, Abby Phillips, Victoria Vogel and Annika Schubert.
 
Basketball Tryouts and Open Gyms
Senior and Junior Girls: open gym for all girls grades 9-12 is TONIGHT from 5:30-7:00 in the small gym.  Tryouts will begin soon, so do your best to attend
Junior Boys: tryouts begin TONIGHT from 7:15-9:00 and SUNDAY from 4:30-6:30.
Senior Boys: next tryout is SUNDAY from 6:30-8:00.
It is very important to attend these tryouts and open gyms if you want to be selected for these teams.  Please communicate with the coaches or Mr. Reisig if there is a conflict  Assuming numbers permit, there may be 'B' or possibly gr 9 teams at the Jr level.

Swim Club
There will be an important Swim Club meeting on FRIDAY at lunch in the small gym.  Please bring your forms.

CAREER CENTRE
Soldier For A Day
Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be a part of the Canadian Armed Forces?   Soldier For A Day is an event on Saturday November 5th  that gives you a chance to get an inside look at all aspects of basic military concepts such as drill and dress, military equipment, weapons, vehicles, training equipment, and military rations. Applications must be submitted by October 29th.  More information and application forms are available from the Career Centre.

Food Safe Training
There are just of few seats left for the Food Safe Training on our Pro-D Day, Friday, October 21st, at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney.  Cost is $50.00. Visit the Career Centre for sign up information.

Fire Camp Deadline
The application deadline for the 2017 Spring Break Fire Camp is fast approaching!  Students who signed up must get their completed application forms to Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre ASAP!

Remember to book your Grad Photo appointment by going onto the Lifetouch website:  www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Photo brochures are available in the office. Don’t put this off, because the appointments book up quickly!
