Bus Passes
If you have registered to ride the school bus, please come to the office to pick up your new bus pass.

Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is officially underway.  On TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings before block 1, bagels, spreads, hot drinks and juice boxes are available in the student lounge.  Bagel/spreads = $.50.  Hot drinks = $.50.  Juice boxes = $.25. 

Do You Need a Peer Tutor?
If you are in need of an academic Peer Tutor, please see Ms. Giese in the counselling office.  We have a small group of tutors ready to help in some subject areas.

Krispy Kreme Donuts
Get your Krispy Kreme donuts TODAY at lunch, and support the senior girls basketball team as they fund-raise for their tournament in Hawaii. One dozen for $10, or singles for $1  

Post Secondary Institutions of BC Event
This year's Post Secondary Institutions of BC Event will be hosted by Parkland Secondary School next THURSDAY night, October 27th, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  This will be a mini-fair format with recruiters and advisors on hand to present their university or college information.  This event ifs free; all parents & students are welcome.

Girls: Imagining Possibilities Conference
We still have a few spaces open for the Imagining Possibilities Conference next WEDNESDAY.  Any girls who are interested in attending this free conference on building confidence, leadership skills, and looking to explore goals for the future should see Ms. Giese today in the counselling office to pick up a permission form.

Model UN Conference (Nov 5th)
The  Nov 5th  Model UN Conference is an opportunity for students to practice their public speaking and consensus-building skills in a friendly, non-confrontational learning environment to discuss topics such as climate change, water management, and protection and promotion of environmental migrants.  Students interested in attending this conference, please visit the school website and complete the "Expression of Interest Survey" or follow this link (https://goo.gl/forms/2h4VfJt3HDiwYE3k2).  For additional information, please see Mrs. Milne, Ms. Paas or Mrs. Heppell.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Halloween Week: Oct 24-31
Starting Monday, Student Government has 6 school days of Halloween fun planned. 
MONDAY – Black-Out Monday.  Wear black!!
TUESDAY – Halloween Lip Sync at lunch in the theatre.  Sign-up sheet is posted on the theatre door.
WEDNESDAY – Mummy Wrap Contest at lunch in the lounge.  Come to participate or come to watch!
THURSDAY   – Movie at lunch in the theatre (Halloween Town).
FRIDAY  – Funky Hat Day.  Get creative!
MONDAY 31st – Halloween costume contest at lunch in the gym.

ATHLETICS
Sr. Boys Volleyball
Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team who defeated the #4 BC Ranked Reynolds Road Runners in a two game split match last night at Reynolds.  The Spartans lost the first set 21-25 but won second set 25-17 giving them the split decision win.  The Spartans also defeated Belmont (25-19, 25-23) and Parkland (25-19, 25-22).

CAREER CENTRE
McGill University Visit – Monday Oct 24th
Any students considering attending McGill University are invited to stop by the Learning Commons early MONDAY morning (Oct 24th).  A representative will be here at 8:15 am until 9:00  with a presentation on McGill University!  Set your alarms! 

Volunteer Opportunity
The SHOAL Centre in Sidney needs volunteers to help make gift tags out of old Christmas cards for their Christmas Craft Fair!  Come help out this SATURDAY, October 22nd, 11:00 -1:00 pm.  Everyone is welcome!   Visit the Career Centre for contact information.

Fall SAT Prep Courses
If you are interested in applying to an American university, it is likely that you will need to write a standardized test, and you can choose to write either/both the SAT or ACT.  An SAT prep course will be offered this fall at St. Michael's University School.  These are comprehensive courses that give students a solid overview of all the content, teach exclusive strategies to tackle each section, and ensure students are confident and well-prepared with extensive in-class practice.  For more information, please visit the Career Centre.
