This year Claremont is hosting the annual Halloween event, which has run for the last 2 years at ROMS. ScreamFest is an amazing event featuring a scary haunted walk, the famous Vortex Tunnel, lots of games and activities, music, food and prizes!  It will run over two nights: Thursday, Oct. 26th and Friday, Oct. 27th. (6:30-10:00pm both nights).  Tickets are $10 and will be on sale all this week in the accounting office.

Spartan Wear
This WEDNESDAY at the start of lunch in the big gym will be the last day that Spartan Wear ordered can be picked up.  Please come right away at the start of lunch.  After that, the extras will go on sale on a first come, first served basis.  A new order for Spartan Wear will be done in mid-November, to be received in time for Xmas.  Any questions, see Mr Reisig.

School Photos & I.D. Cards
If you missed HomeRoom last week, please come to the office to pick up your school photos, I.D. cards, and (for grade 9's) immunization forms.

Math Contest
The first math contest of the year is coming up on November 2nd.  It is called the COMC and this is the contest that UBC uses in some of its scholarship decisions.  The registration deadline is October 16th, so if you are interested, please sign up on the board across from room 133 in the Math wing, or see Mr. Skanks in room 130.

A brand new silver EVO compact bicycle pump has gone missing. If you have come across this pump, please help out your fellow student and return it to the office.

Vex Robotics Club

There is a mandatory Vex Robotics Club meeting for all members TODAY at lunch in room 133, which will explain Competition Week.

Best Buddies
Best Buddies meets every MONDAY at lunch in Room 312.  See Mrs. Stetson for more information.

Curling Meeting

There will be a brief Curling meeting TODAY at lunch in Room 312 for all students hoping to attending tomorrow's curling practice.  Please bring your completed field trip forms.

Sr Boys Volleyball
The Spartans host their first home matches this WEDNESDAY vs two very competitive teams (Royal Bay and PCS).  Please come out and support your Spartans at 5:45pm.

Job Opportunities

The Beach House Restaurant on Cordova Bay Road, has several part-time job opportunities! 
General outside yard clean-up in North Saanich/Sidney, 3 hours @$15 per hour.
Moving 2 cords of wood to wood pile in North Saanich/Sidney. Strong back needed, 3-4 hours @ $15 per hour.

Volunteer Opportunities
Please come to the Career Centre for info about these volunteer opportunities:

Special Olympics Bowling.  Special Olympics BC is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to serve as head coach of their 5-pin bowling program on Tuesdays 5- 6:30pm at Miracle Lanes in Sidney.
Face Painting at a Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event October 22 – hosted by the Remax Realty Group. 4 face painters are needed – experience an asset, but not required.
Halloween Dance and Party at Lochside Elementary is looking for lots of Claremont students to volunteer at their school on Thursday, October 19th from 5:30 – 8:30pm.  Volunteers will assist with the Cupcake Walk, assorted Halloween Midway Games and ticket sales.  All volunteers will receive a free pizza dinner & cupcake.  If you are interested, please sign up at the Claremont Career Centre and your names will be passed on to the organizing committee.

FoodSafe Level 1 on Oct 20th from 8:30-4:30.
Basics of Banking & Finance on Oct 28th from 10:00- 11:30. 
Both courses offered by Beacon Community Services in Sidney.  Stop by the Career Centre for more info.

University Visit Today
A rep from Queen's University (International Campus) is coming to Claremont on TODAY after school starting at 3:30 p.m. in the Student Lounge.

Operation: This IS You - Opportunities for Girls
The Achieve Anything Foundation has partnered with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy to offer hands-on experience opportunities for girls!  These events hope to inspire more women in Aviation, Aerospace, Marine & Defence and other STEM (science, technology, engineering& math) fields.  The first event of the series is taking place October 14th.  Visit the Career Centre for more information on these opportunities!

GRAD 2018
Grad Council Meeting

There will be a brief but important Grad Council meeting TODAY lunch in Ms Harte's room #303 to discuss grad wear and Xmas grad.  Could the gr 12's who signed up at the first meeting please make sure they attend.  Any questions, see Ms. Harte or Mr Reisig.

Loran Scholarship
Reminder to all grade 12 students interested in being nominated for the Loran Scholarship:  the nomination deadline is TODAY.  Please hand in resumes to Mr Cannon (or Mrs Martin in the office) by lunchtime.

Grad Portraits
Attention all grads: make sure you book your grad photos right away.  Lifetouch has their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time.  To book you appointment, please go to the Lifetouch website: www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time.  Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment.  Information brochures are available in the school office.  More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.

Dry Grad 2018
Calling all parents/guardians of graduating students!  Please come to a meeting in the Claremont Learning Commons TONIGHT at 7:00pm to hear about Dry Grad 2018.

The deadline for handing in your Whistler packages has been extended to this FRIDAY October 13th .

Peninsula Youth Health Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Health Clinic, is located at the Ocean Pier Medical Clinic, (#207-2537 Beacon Avenue in Sidney) every THURSDAY 6-8pm.  This clinic offers completely free and confidential service in the areas of physical, sexual, and mental health for youth.  Walk-ins are welcome. This Youth Clinic offers a judgement-free zone for all youth and is an LGBTQ safe space.  For more information, call or text 250-216-8389.
