GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
NYC 2019 Spring Break – Info Meeting Today

This upcoming Spring Break, Mr. Plant will be leading a Performing Arts-focused Trip to New York City and you're invited!  It's not too late to join in on this amazing opportunity. Interested students are invited to attend a meeting TODAY at lunch in the theatre.  Parents are also welcome to participate on this trip. CLUBS
Youth For Change and Inclusion

Youth For Change and Inclusion will have its first meeting next MONDAY at lunch in room 302.  YCI is a group that works to raise awareness of social justice issues and create vibrant, inclusive schools and communities.

Best Buddies
Best Buddies meets MONDAY at lunch in room 312.  See Mrs. Stetson in the IST office for more information.

Spirit Squad
The first Spirit Squad meeting is TUESDAY at lunch in the Dance Studio room 246. This club will be planning and supporting fun school spirit events. See Ms Giordano or Ms McManus for more info.

ATHLETICS
Field Hockey

There is an important Field Hockey meeting TODAY at the beginning of lunch in room 276 (textiles room).  We are discussing uniforms, parent drivers for games, and our player roster.
Next practice is MONDAY at 3:40 pm;  first game is WEDNESDAY, Sept 19th, at UVic.

Swim Team
For those interested in joining the Claremont Swim team, there will be a meeting on TUESDAY Sept 18th, at lunch in room 310.  All swim abilities and grades are welcome! Please see Mrs. Marshall in room 336 if you cannot attend.

CAREER CENTRE
University Visit

A rep from the University of Calgary will be at Claremont on MONDAY Sept. 24th at lunch in the Student Lounge. 

Job Opportunity
Adrienne's Tea Garden at Mattick's Farm is looking for dishwashers and cashier personnel.  Must be 16 older; experience is an asset.  Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for application information.

Work Experience 12 Credits
A reminder to students wishing to receive Work Experience credits for this year, that you need to register with Mr. Arsenault before the September 30th deadline!  If you have a job or are volunteering, register soon to receive credit for your hours! This time can also count toward the grade 12 Grad Transition requirement. Please visit the Career Centre to sign up soon!

Training Opportunities
Please come to the Career Centre, room 235,  for information about these opportunities.
Food Safe Level 1  - Friday, October 19th, 2018 - (Pro-D Day)- 8:30 am to 4:30 pm - at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney - 10030 Resthaven Drive - Cost is $50. Food Safe is useful for anyone working or wishing to work in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.
Retail Training - *FREE* - This certificate program prepares you for first time work experiences in retail & many other work environments. You will be treated as an employee & you will be working alongside a busy team of staff members. This is a full day commitment on Sundays for 4 weeks each month. Train in working a cash register & counting cash, customer service, creating displays and more! Brentwood Bay and Sidney locations.
Alert First Aid with CPR "C" & AED - Saturday, October 20th, 2018 - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney. Cost is $50.

GRAD 2019
Scholarship Meeting

The first Scholarship meeting of the year will be this MONDAY at lunch in the Learning Commons.  All grade 12’s are encouraged to attend.

Dry Grad Meeting Update
A huge thanks to everyone who attended our first meeting of the year! We had a good turnout and are getting focused on a great Dry Grad event. A number of parents have signed up for various positions - THANK YOU!   The following positions are still available, so grab a friend and join us for the fun! We encourage pairing up with someone you know, especially for the Chair position. Many hands make like work ... as they say.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Army Cadets

If you are 12-18 and are interested in finding out about all of the great things that army cadets do, the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps invites students to join the 3005-11 Service Batallion on THURSDAYS 6:30-9:00 pm at the Lt Gen Ashton Armouries, 724 Vanalman Ave.  For more information, see saanicharmycadets.ca or visit our Career Centre.

Free Passes for Western Speedway
Claremont has been given a large number of FREE family passes for Western Speedway for this SATURDAY Sept 15th.  Races include: Wing Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, Minis, Otra, and Dwarfs.  Students and staff: come to the office to pick up some tickets.  Each family pass is good for 2 adults + 2 youth.

Pendray Farms Corn Maze
On SATURDAY September 29, Pendray Farms Corn Maze is teaming up with Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank: with a donation of a non-perishable food item, 1 child per family will be given free entry to the maze that day. Pendray Farms is at 9537 West Saanich Road, North Saanich.  Information flyers are available in the Claremont office.
