School Bus Passes
If you have registered to ride the school bus, the bus passes have arrived! Please come to the office to pick them up. However, if you are an International student, your bus passes have not arrived yet; please continue to use your International Student card for now.
If you still need to register to ride the school bus, please register directly on the School District’s website: www.sd63.bc.ca/programs-and-services/transportation
Orange Shirt Day – Friday Sept 28
Claremont recognizes Orange Shirt Day this FRIDAY. This is a nationally commemorated day to remember the survivors of Indian Residential Schools while affirming that all children are valued in our community. Let's show our support for reconciliation and human rights. Wearing orange helps us all to share in this important message. Every Child Matters.
Student Drivers
A reminder to students drivers that if you are parking in our student lot, parking passes and parking forms need to be completed and submitted to the office by THIS FRIDAY Sept 28.
Girls Lacrosse Class – Meeting Sept. 25
All girls signed up for the girls lacrosse class in semester 2 must attend a very important TOMORROW (Tuesday) at the beginning of lunch in room 276 (textiles room). Topics include: Friday Night Lights Game, practices, fund raising, class expectations, and class fees. See Ms. Taylor (PE office) if, for an exceptionally good reason, you are not able to make the meeting.
Breakfast at Claremont
The Catering class is serving hot breakfast and drinks, MONDAYS – THURSDAYS 8:15 – 8:45 starting this week!. Delicious breakfast sandwiches, burritos, baked goods, smoothies and more. All reasonably priced; cash only.

ATHLETICS
Sr Boys Volleyball
Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball team who went undefeated this weekend against the Island's top teams. Claremont won two rounds of pool play to advanced to the 1/4 finals, where they defeated Islfeld (Comox) 25-14, 25-10. In the semi finals, the Spartans swept PCS (25-10, 25-13) and in the final they defeated Oak Bay in straight sets (25-20, 25-21). All the players contributed to the team's success. Grade 11, Nik Babaeff, was named to the All Star team and grade 11, Crash Wergeland, was the Tournament MVP.
This WEDNESDAY is the Sr. Boys HOME OPENER where they are hosting Reynolds, Royal Bay and Mt. Doug. Come out and support your Spartans. The Games start at 6pm in the big gym.
Field Hockey

Work Experience 12 Credits
A reminder to students wishing to receive Work Experience credits for this year, that you need to register with Mr. Arsenault before the September 30th deadline! If you have a job or are volunteering, register soon to receive credit for your hours! This time can also count toward the grade 12 Grad Transition requirement. Please visit the Career Centre to sign up soon!

Highschool Student Greeters are needed for the 2018 General Local and School Board Election on Saturday, October 20, 2018. $100 for a six-hour shift from either 8 am to 2 pm OR 2 pm to 8 pm. Students are required to to attend a one-hour training session prior to working on voting day and you will be compensated an additional $20. Applications are due Friday, September 21; email your application to elections@saanich.ca.
On call server at the SHOAL Center dining room; $17 per hour on weekends and some week day evenings.
Vacuuming in a residence on Bazan Bay Rd; 2 hours per week - $15 per hour.
Vacuuming and cleaning floors 2 hours every 2 weeks; $15.00.

The Pumpkin Express Event at the Historical Society grounds needs volunteers, October 19, 20, 21 from 4:30-8:30pm. Supervise craft tables, train track crossings, pumpkin carvings, haunted story walks, scavenger hunt in the graveyard and face painting!
Here is an opportunity to support children and youth with autism in your community. Canucks Autism Network is looking for volunteers for different programs:
I Can Swim: Saturdays 4:00-5:45, Sept. 29th to Nov. 24th (Juan de Fuca Rec Centre)
I Can Play Sports and Be Active: Saturdays 1:15-3:00, Oct. 10 to Nov. 28 (Royal Oak Middle School)
I Can Skate: Saturdays 4:30-5:30, Sept. 29 to Dec. 8 (Juan de Fuca Rec Centre)
No Experience required!! Programs do NOT run on long weekends!!
Fire/Rescue Camp
The Gulf Island Fire/Rescue Camp is 5-1/2 days long and takes place during Spring Break in March.

GRAD 2019
Grad Portraits
Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Claremont for a limited time, starting October 9th. To book your appointment, please go to the Lifetouch website: www.lifetouch.ca/victoria. Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook). Information posters are posted around the school. More details are on the Claremont Grad Page.
Grad 2019 Pinnies
If you wish to order a Grad 2019 Pinnie, order forms are online on the Grad 2019 Page of the Claremont website; there are also some paper copies available in the office. Pinnies are $35. Deadline to order is October 5th.
Dry Grad
Dry Grad will have a table set up during Meet the Teacher night, Sept 26th. Please stop by to learn more about the event, the positions, and other ways you will be able to help out.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
Cordova Bay Local Area Plan
If you are under 50 and living in Cordova Bay, you are invited to contribute to the Cordova Bay Local Area Plan Update (guiding, planning and land use decisions for the community over the next 20 to 30 years). There is an upcoming interactive workshop, seeking constructive input from younger age groups and those raising families. Discuss issues such as: parks, housing, transportation, safety, the Village and more. Please join in to share what is important to you. WEDNESDAY, October 3, 5:30-7:00pm @ the Claremont Learning Commons. Pizza and refreshments provided for everyone.
Pendray Farms Corn Maze
On SATURDAY September 29, Pendray Farms Corn Maze is teaming up with Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank: with a donation of a non-perishable food item, 1 child per family will be given free entry to the maze that day. Pendray Farms is at 9537 West Saanich Road, North Saanich. Information flyers are available in the Claremont office.
