Claremont PAC Meeting Agenda and Minutes

September 18, 2018 7:00 p.m.

Learning Commons

20 Parents in attendance.  


  1. Principal's Report - Claremont Admin. Team

    1. School year is off to a great start.  Gr 12’s have been done a great job making our grade 9’s feel welcome.  Hot Dog BBQ and social time on the first day of school for grade 9’s and 12 was a big success.  

    2. Grade wide assemblies are complete where all student learned about those routines and basic reminders that make Claremont a safe, caring, and orderly learning environment.  Code of conduct was reviewed.

    3. Our three R’s were reviewed as core values for Claremont; Respect, Responsibility, Relationships.

    4. New logo and new brand, Power of Why - Superintendent Eberwein blog all evident on District website,

    5. Staff in Saanich getting use to Outlook email, and microsoft 365.

    6. Student enrollment is just shy of 1200, student timetables are now set for semester 1

    7. Follow Claremont new through direct feed, please sign up and follow us on Twitter.

    8. Orange Shirt Day Friday Sept. 28

    9. School wide Terry Fox Run and Spirit Day Friday Oct 5.

  2. Treasurer's report - Lynda Mason (outgoing treasurer)

    1. Lynda provided a brief report and willing to stay on to assist with transition to new PAC treasured.

    2. Accounts are in good shape; approximately $4000 in gaming account and $6700 in Operating account.

    3. October meeting focus will be allocation of funds to clubs and projects around the school.

  3. ScreamFest 2018 - Mr. Hayes

    1. Dates are set for second annual Screamfest Oct. 25/26.  

    2. Claremont Athletics, Performing Arts, and PEP will play a large role in sponsoring their time for this event. Many parents will also be needed to ensure the nights are successful.

  4. Building Community - Mr. Westhaver

    1. Any time we can have parents participate in school events, the better.  Assistance is always appreciated. Breakfast Club, Grad, Screamfest, Athletic events, etc…

    2. It was brought to the meeting that Claremont is in desperate need of additional bike racks and more space for bicycles.  In fact, we are far lower than municipal specifications. Claremont Admin, see this as priority and have dedicated funds and are working with district Facilities Manager to ensure this project is completed soon.  More information to follow at October 16 PAC meeting.
