Snow Safety

Reminder to students to be extra cautious on the roads in slippery, icy and slushy conditions.  Whether you are a pedestrian or if you are driving, remember that other drivers cannot stop quickly.  Give drivers lots of space to see you, slow down, and stop safely.

Cancer Research Opportunity – Grade 11’s
Are you a grade 11 student who is interested in the opportunity to explore cancer research first hand and learn the latest techniques being used to today in the fight against cancer? If so, come to an informational meeting TODAY at lunch in room 203.

FoodSafe Certificates
If you were in Ms Yager’s foods class last semester, your FoodSafe certificate is now in the foods office. Please come pick it up.

Class Afloat 2019-2020

Are you considering a study abroad or gap year after graduation? Class Afloat offers both study and travel opportunities, on board their majestic tall ship, and have just released their 2019-2020 Voyage details.  This amazing journey starts off from Amsterdam, sailing around the Mediterranean, down the West African coast, across to Brazil, Central America, and final stop in Canada. Women in Trades Technology Field Trip – Feb 20
Could the students who have signed up for Camosun College’s Women In Trades Technology field trip please return their completed permission forms to the Career Centre asap. Only those with submitted consent forms will be permitted to participate.  There are a few spots left for this amazing opportunity for girls on Wednesday, February 20th.   Students will have the opportunity to explore and participate in activities in trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Automotive Service Technician, Sheet Metal/Metal Fabrication, plus four technology areas including Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Please see Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for info and permission forms.

BCIT: Big Info Night – Feb. 20
Students looking into post-secondary options are invited to attend the BCIT Big Info Night, taking place at the BCIT Burnaby Campus on WEDNESDAY, Feb 20, from 4:30-7:30 pm. ‘Big Info’ is the largest program expo and information session at BCIT and is a great opportunity for students to get their questions answered by faculty and current students from over 300 programs – all in one place.  Check out more info at bcit.ca/biginfo or visit the Career Centre.

Grad Portrait Retakes

Grads: if you had grad re-takes done in January, the proofs have arrived!!  Please come to the office to pick them up.

RE/MAX Quest For Excellence Bursaries
This year RE/MAX is once again offering (16) $1,000 bursaries for a total of $16,000 to grade 12 students. This program was established by RE/MAX of Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives. Only online entries will be accepted; students enter online at www.remax.ca.  Deadline for submissions for the 2019 Quest for Excellence program is midnight March 11th..

Magic Wand Project
The Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux,  (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge).  All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included.  Any student is eligible. To book an appointment to view the selection of available clothes,  email: esurerus@telus.net

Reminder to Grads to get your Grad Transition forms and interview completed while you still have time to choose your own person to interview you!  GT forms are available from the Career Centre.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Broadmead/Cordova Bay BC Transit Plan

BC Transit is hosting a workshop on February 19th as a follow-up to some open houses they had back in the fall.  They are hoping to have 2 students that would be interested in provided a high school student perspective to the workshop, to better advocate for transit around the school. If any student is interested, please come to the office or see Mr. Westhaver.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at Peninsula Medical, 2a-2379 Bevan Avenue, Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
