Friday, October 30th, 2020 Dear Parents, Guardians and Students, Here are a few topics to be aware of in preparation for the upcoming
week as we near the end of Quarter 1: Grad Parent Planning
Committee Meeting: The Claremont Parent After Grad Committee is
set to meet on the first Tuesday of each month.
The next meeting is Tuesday Nov 3rd at 7:00 pm, virtually through
TEAMs. The purpose of the meeting is to
understand the role of this Committee given the circumstances of this unique
year and develop ideas as to how we can make Grad special this year. If you are interested in joining this
meeting please RSVP through email to Mr. Westhaver (pwesthaver@saanichschools.ca) and he will send you the invitation
link. The Saanich School District uses
the Microsoft TEAMs platform for many virtual meetings. Here are the instructions that will help you
connect: TEAMS - Families and Learners
Health & Safety - Mask Use: In
each Block 2 class, unless students are able to properly physically distance in
the space provided, all students and staff who are in the room need to be
wearing masks; all Block 2 classes have been full attendance for the last
three weeks, and because they are a collection of students from different
morning cohorts we need to be adamant that students and staff are properly
protecting themselves. Peer Tutoring: Thank
you to Mrs. Wadsworth for organizing ten of our Claremont students who are
currently operating as peer tutors for other students in the building that have
requested support. Please email her at: rwadsworth@saanichschools.ca and she will do her best to connect each
student with an appropriate peer tutor. Numeracy and Literacy Assessments: A
reminder that Quarter 1 Provincial Assessments are running all next week
(November 2nd - 6th). Grade 10 and 11
students enrolled in Math or English in Quarter 1 will write their assessments
next Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
Almost all of the remaining grade 12 students who still need to write
are signed up and ready to write on Thursday or Friday. Please direct any further questions regarding
this process to Mrs. de Klerk (kdeklerk@saanichschools.ca). You can find
more information about Graduation Assessments linked
here. Fri Nov 13th - “Completion Day”: This
final day of Quarter 1 will not be a regular day in session for all
students. Teachers will be inviting only
those students that are behind in their classes and have the ability to catch
up. Therefore, if a student is up to
date in their courses, they will not need to be present at school on this day. Group A/B Rotation: The Group A / B schedule for the final two weeks of Quarter 1 is
listed below: We hope that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween weekend. Sincerely, Peter Westhaver Kelly de
