GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Grade 12 Blood Drive

All grade 12 students interested in donating blood: please come to an Information meeting and sign up TODAY or TUESDAY Dec.1 at lunch in room 136 with Ms Chapman.  Let’s roll up our sleeves, Claremont, and donate to the Canadian Blood Services.  Each unit of blood collected can save 3 lives. Donors must be 17yrs or older to donate.

  

PEP 9:  Bottle Drive for Comfort Kits

The PEP 9 students had a very successful Bottle Drive on Sunday and look forward to using the funds to put together many comfort kits to share some kindness with hospital patients.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

 

Morning Breaktime Food Service

The Spartan Store, located just beside the cafeteria service window, is open for breakfast and snack service between 10 and 11 every morning. They will have reasonably priced coffee, hot chocolate, hash browns, breakfast wraps and baked goods..... perfect for a mid-morning treat.  Cash or lunch cards only (lunch cards can be bought from the Accounting office for $5 or $10).

 

After School Homework Club

Reminder: for all students who would like extra help in Math, English, Science or Social Studies: help from Education Assistants is available on TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS 3:00-4:00 after school in room 235 (computer lab). All students in all grades are welcome. Please wear a mask.

CLUBS

YCI:  Winter Clothing/Backpack Drive    

YCI Club is supporting the ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ Backpack Drive!  Home is Where the Heart Is Foundation is an adolescent-driven foundation who are raising awareness about the homelessness crisis and supporting those in need.  For the Backpack Drive, we are collecting:

*warm clothing (toques, mitts/gloves, scarfs, socks)

*backpacks

*hygiene products (shampoo, soap, body wash, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, tissue packs, feminine hygiene products, small makeup items)

*non-perishable snacks (granola bars, trail mix, raisins, beef jerky, candy, gum).

All donations will be packed by members of the Home is Where the Heart is Foundation and, in working with Our Place Society, the items will be distributed to people in need.  Donation bins are at the front office. Collection runs until December 18.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

UVic: Entrepreneurship at Gustavson

OnLine (Zoom) Lecture - Dec 2

UVic Advising Staff are excited to offer an online lecture for all high school students: Entrepreneurship at Gustavson.  Explore the UVic and Gustavson approach to entrepreneurship, and the many ways it's supported beyond the classroom. Canadian Coast Guard College – Virtual Presentation – Dec. 10

Register for a virtual presentation hosted by the Canadian Coast Guard College, "Discover the Officer Training Program."  The four-year Officer Training Program is one of the best marine training programs in the world, producing both Marine Engineering Officers and Marine Navigation Officers.  Graduates of the CCGC receive a Canadian Coast Guard College Diploma, a Bachelor of Technology in Nautical Sciences, a Commercial Certification issued by Transport Canada, continued employment with the Canadian Coast Guard, and internationally recognized certification.

UBC's Faculty of Medicine: Virtual Outreach Presentation – Dec 8

The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine is excited to provide their Medical Student Outreach Ambassador Program. The Faculty of Medicine plays a pivotal role in selecting and training medical doctors in British Columbia and wants to inform students about possible future careers in medicine. UBC medical students provide 30-60 minute presentations to high school students. Next meeting date: Tuesday, Dec. 8 @ 6pm.  If you are interested in this, contact Mrs. Watson from the Career Centre, and she will send you the meeting login and other details.  If your name has already been given to Mrs. Watson for a virtual session, make sure to check your student email for more information!

Scholarships

Deadline TODAY:  Schulich Leaders STEM ($100,000) and Cmolik Foundation ($40,000) Scholarships.  If you are a grade 12 student wishing to be nominated for either of these scholarships, please complete a nomination application by the end of TODAY.  All the information can be found on Claremont's Scholarship Weekly Update Website (post #09).  Contact Ms. Tong if you have any questions.

 

Student Transcript Service

Grade 12’s: Did you know that YOU can access your own transcripts from the Student Transcript Service website?  You can view your transcript and/or send them to a Post-Secondary Institution of your choice, at any time. It is easy to make a BCeID account on the Student Transcript Service.  Check out the information posters on the wall, just outside of the counselling office.  http://www.StudentTranscripts.gov.bc.ca

NEW Programs at the Upside Teen Centre (Saanich Commonwealth Place)

Reminder that there are FREE, registered drop-in style programs for older teens at the Upside Teen Centre.  Youth can pre-register online or in person!

Peninsula Youth Clinic

Peninsula Youth Clinic is operating through Telehealth on Thursday evenings 5:30 - 7:30pm Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential in their judgement free zone for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.  To make an appointment, call 250-656-4143.

  

Foundry Youth Clinic

Foundry Victoria Youth Clinic offers young people ages 12-24 health and wellness services, with doctors, mental health workers, and peer support workers. Foundry is open for virtual and on-site appointments. To make an appointment, call 250-383-3552. Phones are answered beginning at 10:30AM on weekdays to schedule appointments for the day.
