GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Remembrance Day: Lest We Forget

Claremont will be holding a virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony on WEDNESDAY Nov. 10 in Block 2 classes. We honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country, and those who continue to serve, in order to preserve our Canadian values and freedoms. Thank you to the men and women of our Canadian military: the soldiers, medics, equipment technicians, pilots, support staff and peacekeepers.

Also on WEDNESDAY, poppies from the Royal Canadian Legion will be available, and donations will be collected in the block 2 classrooms; due to the challenges of wearing a poppy in PE classes, students in Block 2 PE classes are invited to come to the office at lunch time to pick up a poppy. Please wear a poppy proudly and consider making a donation to the Legion Poppy Fund. Poppy funds raised assist Veterans and their families with many necessary services and supports.

Parking Lot Warning

The Saanich School District grounds team has put up a flagged/taped barricade along the path between the student parking lot and the school.  This is due to the vulnerable state of the poplar trees that line the lower field (the roots are saturated due to the heavy rain, and the heavy winds are putting them at risk for a blow-down).  Students are being asked to NOT use the path between the student parking lot and the school; instead, please walk around. An arborist will be assessing the trees today.

Found

New in the Lost & Found: we have a lava bead bracelet.  Please come to the office to claim it.

School Photos Are Here

There are lots of school photos in the office (from the first Photo Day in September). Please come pick yours up. Note: the photos from Retake Day have not arrived yet.

Bus Cards

There are 130 bus cards still in the office, waiting to be picked up for students who are registered to ride the bus. The bus drivers are now expecting students to show their bus cards to ride the school bus.

Grad Diplomas for 2021 Grads

Parents: if you have an older child who graduated in June ‘21, their Dogwood Graduation Diplomas are available in the office for pickup.  Younger siblings are welcome to pick them up.

ATHLETICS GO SPARTANS!!!

Junior Girls Basketball

There is a tryout for the Junior Girls' Basketball team this WEDNESDAY, November 10th from 3:30-5:00 pm in the big gym. Please see Ms. Robertson if you have any questions.

Rowing Team

The Spartan Rowing Team finished the school season this past weekend at Elk Lake at the LVISSAA City Championships. The Spartans not only helped getting things setup for the regatta (often showing up at 5:30am), but each of them had at least 6 races in 2 events each over the two days. Due to last minute illness/injury, some athletes stepped up and raced in 6 races on Sunday alone! This past weekend was an example of why rowing is a watersport...though usually the water isn't coming from above as much as it did.

Some result highlights:

Experienced 8+ category: we claimed 1,2 & 3.

Novice 4x: 3rd place.

Girls Double: 1st place.

All the quad categories: 1st place.

All the 4x categories: 1st place.

Men’s 1x: we claimed 1, 2 & 3!

Women’s 1x: we claimed 2, 3 & 4!

While that wraps up the LVISSAA school season, some of the athletes are racing this weekend at Elk Lake again as part of Rowing Canada's National Rowing Championships (all the top rowers try out for a spot on the National team).  This weekend will see our athletes racing against the top athletes of all ages from across the country. These athletes will be racing on FRIDAY and SATURDAY: Christian KLEIN, Gerrit SCHAEFER, Fabio GEISLER, Lucas TURNER, Evey LEWIS, Sofia CAPELLI DA SILVA, Ellington PEACOCK, Sophia REGOSA, and Mira CALDER.
