Peer Tutoring

A reminder to all students that Peer Tutors are available at lunch each day to help with your subjects. Tutors are happy to help with most courses.

ATHLETICS
Track & Field

There is an important Track and Field meeting on WEDNESDAY at the start of lunch in room 137 (Mr. Nelson's room).
Also, please see Ms. Giese for a player package if you want to participate in Track & Field this year.  Packages are due to Ms. Giese by WEDNESDAY April 6 in order to compete.

Rugby - Scrum Fest
Its that time of year again..... the Scrum Fest rugby tournament will be taking place this THURSDAY, FRIDAY and SATURDAY. We have 30 teams from as far away as Ontario and California participating.
There will be limited cafeteria service on those days, and a BBQ concession with burgers, etc will be set up down on the track.  Come out and support your Spartan teams!

CAREER CENTRE
Saanich Police – Volunteer Opportunity
Each year, the Saanich Police recruit high school students to carry out various crime prevention initiatives throughout the Municipality of Saanich.  These duties include, but are not limited to:
-Distributing crime prevention literature;
-Fanning out crime information to Block Watch neighbourhoods;
-Providing support to community volunteers;
-Attending community events;
-Speedwatch;
-Cellwatch. 
This program is great experience for students who are considering a career in Criminology or any facet of police work.  See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and an application package.

Camp Ignite - For Gr. 11 & 12 Girls
Camp Ignite is a Youth Firefighter Mentorship Program for girls ages 16-18.  This is a a 4-day camp (August 11-14, 2016) that educates and inspires young women about the career of firefighting. The camp takes place in Vancouver and is organized by members of Vancouver's Fire Rescue Services.  There are no costs to participate.  More information and application forms available in the Career Centre.

Apprenticeship Opportunities at Dockyard
Reminder: Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMFCB) - (Dockyard) is accepting applications until April 15th for apprenticeships in the following trades:  Marine Pipefitter; Millwright; Various Metal Trades; Machinist; Various Hull Trades; and Electrician. See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and application forms.

Scholarships Opportunity
Beacon Community Services offers 4 awards of $1500.00 each to grade 12 students in SD 63 who volunteer in the community – it is presented to graduating students for exemplary community service and/or leadership.  Application deadline is May 1st. Visit the Career Centre to find out how to apply.
