GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Canada's Most Informed Student Competition - ChatterHigh
Grade 11's - Could YOU be Canada's most informed student? One more week until the qualifying round of "Canada's Most Informed Student” competition kicks off!  It runs April 11 - May 20.  During this time period, grade 11 students are invited to explore post-secondary and career information in ChatterHigh's daily activity.  Students who answer 75% of questions correctly and advance into grade 12 in the fall will participate in the finals, which will take place next fall.  Top students will receive scholarships!  Although this competition is only for grade 11 students, ChatterHigh can be used by all high school students as a fun way to explore future options.

Peer Tutoring
A reminder to all students that Peer Tutors are available at lunch each day to help with your subjects. Tutors are happy to help with most courses.

ATHLETICS
Track & Field

There is an important Track and Field meeting TODAY at the start of lunch in room 137 (Mr. Nelson's room).
Also, please see Ms. Giese for a player package if you want to participate in Track & Field this year.  Packages are due to Ms. Giese by the end of TODAY April 6 in order to compete.

Rugby - Scrum Fest
Its that time of year again..... the Scrum Fest rugby tournament will be taking place this THURSDAY, FRIDAY and SATURDAY. We have 30 teams from as far away as Ontario and California participating.
There will be limited cafeteria service on those days, and a BBQ concession with burgers, etc will be set up down on the track.  Come out and support your Spartan teams!

Dean Park: Weeding, raking and branch pick-up. 3 hours weekly 3 hours, April 4 -July 30. $11.25/hr.
Near Ardmore Golf Course:  Lawn mowing.  1-2 hrs weekly. $14.00/Hour
North Saanich: Weeding flower beds, One half-day on the weekend. Could become more. $15.00/Hour
Sidney: Puppy play time! A senior couple have an 8-week old puppy and they need a student to have play time, 2 hours a week. $21.50/Week

FREE Training and Courses

Gardening Basics – 3 Sundays: May 1,8,15 1:00-4:00 pm at Sluggett House Garden, 1336 Marchant Rd, Brentwood Bay.  Learn from master gardeners how to maintain a professional garden (soil preparation, planting seeds and plants, plant care, weeding, pruning, and safe use and care of tools). This course will
prepare students to make money doing neighbourhood garden work, and the residents at Sluggett House will be able to enjoy the gardens and harvest the crops throughout the summer.

Retail Training – 4 Sundays: May 8-29, 9:30-4:00 at 9775 Third Street, Sidney.  This certificate program prepares you for first time work experiences in retail and many other work environments. You will be treated as an employee and you will be working alongside a busy team of staff members. You will have training in: working a cash register and counting cash, customer service, creating displays, sorting inventory, assisting with pricing, opening & closing procedures.

Saanich Police – Volunteer Opportunity
Each year, the Saanich Police recruit high school students to carry out various crime prevention initiatives throughout the Municipality of Saanich.  These duties include, but are not limited to:
-Distributing crime prevention literature;
-Fanning out crime information to Block Watch neighbourhoods;
-Providing support to community volunteers;
-Attending community events;
-Speedwatch;
-Cellwatch. 
This program is great experience for students who are considering a career in Criminology or any facet of police work.  See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and an application package.

Camp Ignite - For Gr. 11 & 12 Girls
Camp Ignite is a Youth Firefighter Mentorship Program for girls ages 16-18.  This is a a 4-day camp (August 11-14, 2016) that educates and inspires young women about the career of firefighting. The camp takes place in Vancouver and is organized by members of Vancouver's Fire Rescue Services.  There are no costs to participate.  More information and application forms available in the Career Centre.

Apprenticeship Opportunities at Dockyard
Reminder: Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMFCB) - (Dockyard) is accepting applications until April 15th for apprenticeships in the following trades:  Marine Pipefitter; Millwright; Various Metal Trades; Machinist; Various Hull Trades; and Electrician. See Mr. Arsenault in the Career Centre for more information and application forms.

Scholarships Opportunity
Beacon Community Services offers 4 awards of $1500.00 each to grade 12 students in SD 63 who volunteer in the community – it is presented to graduating students for exemplary community service and/or leadership.  Application deadline is May 1st. Visit the Career Centre to find out how to apply.

Tofino Trip
For all International students planning to go on the Tofino trip: please get your paperwork and payment to Brenda as soon as possible.  Spots are limited and they are filling up fast.  The deadline is this FRIDAY, but the seats might be full by then, so don't put this off.

Pizza Lunch
For all International students:  there will be a Pizza Lunch on TUESDAY April 12 in the Choir room.  International grads, please attend for a group grad picture.
