Course Outline

This course is designed to provide the student the fundamental skill sets that are common to the trades. Emphasis will be on safety, skill development, and the demonstration of employable skills.

Intended learning Outcomes for the Student:

• Develop lifelong learning patterns

• Develop the ability to make things and explore technology

• Develop appropriate attitudes and practices with respect to work safety and personal health

• Gain competence in working with tools, materials, and processes to produce high quality work

• Become discerning users of materials, products, and technical services

Marking

Safety - Tests and day to day actions                              4%

Measurement - Tests and practical application                                                                   4%

All introductory projects if not already done (CNC, lathe, plant table)                           varies

Personal Project(s) – At least one project of the students own design

These projects must by approved and

paid for BEFORE work begins.

Students MUST make one project of their own design

with a complete set of drawings and procedures

Employable Skills – These are skills that employers are looking for when                                     20%

hiring an employee. These include:

• arriving to class on time (late arrivals will NOT

work in the shop but will be assigned textbook work)

• working the entire block

• cleaning up the shop

• following shop rules for safety and behaviour

• asking for permission to leave the shop
